Bombers for Babies - New Item Wednesday

As I type this I'm intermittently feeding my little man a snack. Some late afternoon oatmeal if you wish to know. He thinks it's fun to bite down on the spoon every time it enters his mouth. Maybe that's why this post is getting written so slowly. Regardless, it seems appropriate to mention him in this post since this week's new item was inspired especially by him. Last week we experienced a bit of a chill and I realized I did not have the appropriate head dressing for my son's little head. The one hat we did own was not only quickly becoming too small, but was finding itself tossed to the ground repeatedly by its wearer. Hence, I set to work designing a size appropriate hat that could withstand the numerous attempts at dethronement. Success... Wow is it Wednesday again already? Now I understand how it is that with the blink of my eyes my little boy is almost 10 months old! Weeks go by incredibly fast I tell you.

Exciting Things Ahead

New Item Wednesday will be back in full swing starting next Wednesday, September 18th. You can expect to see a quick peak here on the blog of what I add to my shop weekly. Today is just a teaser since my shop relaunch isn't until Monday. Next Wednesday I will be adding this little doodad for all those cozy cups o' joe you're sure to be having come cooler weather.

Special Announcement

As many of you know, I love to crochet. So much! With all the changes the past year has brought I had to slow down my output a bit. I comforted myself with the fact that the majority of the things I make are a wee bit seasonal.  Yarn is warm and cozy and not usually the thing people want to wear when the sun is beating down... 

It's much more suited for the fall. And yarn and winter are most certainly a match made in heaven. I am originally from Minnesota and know that feeling of summer slipping away and winter fast approaching. It can be a dreary transition. But not anything a beautiful new scarf or darling pair of mittens can't cheer.   

And that is why I'm back at work stitching away, photographing, and getting ready to reboot my shop. Mark your calendar for Monday, September 16th and plan a little shopping spree at The Velvetleaf Boutique to get you ready for this year's chilly season!

I'm working on styling items that are currently in my shop. It's really such fun! Interestingly enough, I felt put together before taking these photos, but now that I look at them I feel the outfit is missing something. Or several somethings? Amazing how a photo offers a different perspective. 

What do you think is missing? A belt maybe? Or long sweater? Or maybe a light jacket? Shoes of course, though you can't see that I'm barefoot here. Just couldn't resist the warm sun on my toes.

Cute Cozy Coasters

I sure do love me a beautiful coaster. In fact, I've become convinced tea and coffee taste better when resting atop something lovely between sips. That, and the fact that our furniture is saved from the wear and tear of water condensation and burn marks have me thoroughly in love...

I love the tile ones, the wood ones, the cork ones, the glass ones, and even the felt ones. But I especially love the crocheted ones. This week I set out to stitch up a set that would cozy up my couch-side table.
When I finished, I decided they were too much fun to keep just to myself. So I made some for my shop to share with all the other crocheted-coaster-lovers out there. Are you one of them?

Hand Warmers - The Velvetleaf Boutique

I got dressed up for a day of shopping yesterday. We went to Sam's club to restock on paper products. Yippee! And then we headed to Target for diapers and a bit of clothes shopping. God blessed me with some new workout tops on the clearance rack. They're bright and fun and make me want to exercise which is just what I need at the moment.

This outfit was possibly a bit over-the-top for a simple Sam's and Target run; but I always seem to enjoy the trip more when I've put myself together. I realize now I completely forgot to accessorize (aside from the hand warmers) before stepping out the door. I find myself wearing very little jewelry lately. I used to wear necklaces quite often. Then I switched over to scarves. And I almost always wear earrings. Except on those days that I don't of course.

It's Wednesday's New Item

This gorgeous hat is the newest addition to my little shop. I'm not sure how I feel about the solemnity of my expression but I was going for a serious and somewhat artsy look. You can view more photos at The Velvetleaf Boutique! 

I still can't get over the soft wonderful texture of yarn. I love working with it and wearing it. And I especially love the timelessness of it. Pretty sure our dear grandmas had it right all along. Crocheting is a delight!
